Hello World

As this is the first blog of my new site, I thought I would provide some details on how it's built! Gone are the days of having to maintain your own server, or pay for an expensive VPS. Now there are a plethora of different options for hosting static websites on the Internet.

This site is built using React/NextJS and deployed as a static site on Cloudflare. Cloudflare Pages offers "a JAMstack platform for frontend developers to collaborate and deploy websites", with a free tier available (which as of right now gives you up to 500 builds a month with unlimited requests and bandwidth). Using it to host a website is amazingly simple, and it took me about 2 minutes to get the site live and served via Cloudflare's global edge network.

All it required was allowing access to a GitHub repository, specifying the framework and setting the build command. Once that's done, you can link a custom domain with HTTPS and you're finished… simple, secure and fast! 🎉
